4.6 Release Notes
Written by Mike
Wednesday, July 7 2010, 12:22 PM by
In the next few weeks (around July 19) we'll be launching a significant platform upgrade that contains some brand new apps and some enhancements to our existing apps. As the release date approaches this page will be updated with a  complete set of detailed notes. Documentation for all the new functionality will be published on KickDeveloper as soon as the release is pushed to production. In the meantime, below is a short list of the highlights to whet your appetite.

  • Custom Pages (New App!) - Create an unlimited number of individual pages for your site, populated with whatever content you choose (text, images, flash widgets, javascript code, etc. Each page gets a unique URL (created by you) and can be instantly wired up for social interaction (comments, ratings, tags, shares, etc.) with the click of a button.
  • Pro Video (New App!) - Built on top of the current Video Sharing app, the new Pro Video app adds an expanded suite of features for uploading, curating, delivering, and monetizing high-quality video.  (Assign advertising policies to individual videos, variable bit rate and RTMP streaming, georestriction policies, new video management interface and playlists).
  • Sets (New App!) - organize your site’s media into collections for easy viewing and sharing. Sets can contain up to 1,000 items each, and can be comprised of photos, videos, audio tracks and blog posts (organized in any order). Sets can be searched for, browsed and interacted with just like any other piece of media in your site.
  • Newly Redesigned Affiliate Center Homepage, with quick links to frequently performed site owner tasks (see image at right)
  • New “Admin” role for easier delegation of site configuration and management duties.
  • New default sorting option for site-wide searches – the new “relevance” algorithm emphasizes the density of keyword matches in media titles and descriptions, in addition to “recency.”
  • iDevice video compatibility - your videos will automatically play (and look great on the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch).
  • More detailed reporting for videos, widgets and RSS feed requests.
  • Members can opt to be updated by email when someone leaves a comment after their comment on a profile page, media page or group page.
  • “Send myself a preview” feature for Broadcast Emails
  • Dozens of new API calls to support new and existing platform functionality.
  • Lots more!
