KickApps Version 2.3 Release Notes

by Mike Sommers

Version 2.3 release of the KickApps platform contains new features that are designed to give you more control over how your content is displayed and syndicated, as well as improve the user experience in your community.

Custom HTML code between your community’s <head> tags
In the Affiliate Center, on the Site Settings > Enter Header & Footer Code page you can now include custom HTML code between your community’s <head> tags, in addition to the custom code in the header and footer of your community pages. This provides you with a lot more (valid) flexibility when scripting your pages. (Thanks to Jeromy D. for suggesting this one!).

Widget block list
In the Affiliate Center, on the Site Settings > Widget Block List page you can provide a list of sites that will be blocked from rendering your KickApps widgets. This feature is designed to give you more control over where your widgets are embedded, and prevent your content from appearing on sites that you specify.

New photo page, photo enlarge page and option to download original photo
All photos in your community are now rendered as standard JPEG images, which should load a lot faster and look sharper. In addition, there are two new options beneath each photo, “View Enlarged Photo” and “Download Original Photo.” Clicking “View Enlarged Photo” will take users to a new page containing the enlarged photo (max width is 730 pixels). Clicking “Download Original Photo” will render the original uncompressed image file, in its original dimensions.

Note:  If you are using custom style sheets in your community, you may need to make a small change in order for your site to gain the full benefits from these photo handling features. Please follow this link for more information.

Member profile images on Blog list page
Each blog post on the list page will now include the Member’s profile photo as the thumbnail image, instead of the default image for blog posts.

Member profile images no longer appear in photo list pages
In response to feedback from the KickApps community, we’ve updated your List pages so they no longer display Profile Photos when members search or browse your community’s Photos.

Improved DNS Masking
Bugs were resolved that sometimes resulted in media not playing while traversing from the Affiliate Center to your community and vice versa. Hyperlinks within system-generated emails are now DNS masked. All embed code URL’s (including embed code) are now DNS masked. Please note: If you change or remove your DNS masking, all of your video player widgets in the field will be disabled.
